Hi. I’m Lorie Marrero, creator of the Clutter Diet book and on-line program, and today we’re going to answer one of our questions from you, our viewers here on You Tube. Natalia31147, has a problem with stacks of clothing in her closet. She says when she grabs that bottom pair of jeans from the stack, it all topples over and everything becomes a mess, so what should she do?
All right, well I’m going to teach you what I call the “pancake flipper method.” And it requires two hands to do it. So it goes against our normal lazy human inclination to use one hand to do everything and do it the fastest way possible.
So, usually people do pull something out with one hand and keep going, and that’s what creates the mess. So if you use two hands and just take a couple of more seconds, you can keep your closet much neater. So, I recommend if you are right handed, like many people are, you use your left hand for the pancake flipper. So, you just make your hand really flat, like a spatula, you identify the clothing that you want to remove – so let’s just say it’s this dark pair of jeans here– and you put your hand in, flat, on top of the item that you want. Remove the rest of the stack, use your other hand to take out what you want, and put the rest of the stack back. That’s it. That’s all you have to do to maintain neater stacks in your closet.
Another thing I like doing for stacks is using shelf dividers. This one here is acrylic, and it separates two different stacks and keeps them from falling on each other. So, you can grab these on-line anywhere, just Google “shelf dividers.” And this one’s made of acrylic. It takes no tools to install but you can get them in metal. I think there are other materials as well. Some plastic ones. But these are super easy and they just make your closet look so much nicer and help you get visibility to your stuff, which is the goal of any organizing project.
Now, we would love to answer your questions. You can submit your questions here on the “comments” on You Tube. You can also put them on our Facebook page. And if we can’t get to it, then we can certainly help you in our Member Area. People in our on-line program get unlimited consulting from our team of professional organizers. We go in there seven days a week and answer every Member question, as much as you need, and this only costs the price of a pizza. So you should check that out at https://www.clutterdiet.com/learnmore.
