Hi. I’m Lorie Marrero, and today’s Clutter Video Tip is Part 5 in our five-part series on time management. We have captured a lot of information, we have committed to which information we’re going to move forward with, we have cued ourselves to take action on those commitments at the right time, and we have completed our work with the right motivation. Now, our system might seem to be whole at that point, but I don’t believe that any system is valid without some kind of feedback lube, and that’s why the fifth element of your time management fingerprint is “correct.” We’re going to talk about a system of evaluation that you can use ongoing as you work through your time management system on a daily basis.
First, you want to be looking at any additional capturing methods that you can add to your toolbox – new things come out all the time – and you also might want to eliminate some of those tools that aren’t working for you or that you’re forgetting to check, things that you are allowing to fall through the cracks. There may be other things falling through the cracks. You may have missed appointments or “to do’s” that are not getting done, and you want to look at those and assess them and figure out how to plug those holes. Maybe you need a little bit more external motivation to get some of those things done. And you, of course, want to be re-prioritizing your calendar and your task list as your life changes, because something you put on your calendar two months ago may no longer be relevant based on some kind of major life change or some kind of business shift that’s happened in between now and then. And you constantly want to be thinking about improvement based on what I call the “lazy person questions.” And those are, “How can I do this better?” “How can I do this faster?” and, “How can I not do this at all?” “Is there somebody I can delegate this to?” “Can I eliminate this from my task list altogether?” And, these questions are great to prompt yourself to continuously think about improving and to find shortcuts.
