Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves watching this video through until the end. There are some things that are just unpleasant to think about, but think about the relief you will feel to have them out in the open and off of your mind. Watch this video as I share my own personal journey in this mission possible. But watch the video soon, this tape- er, video- will self-destruct in five seconds. 😉

Hi. I’m Lorie Marrero, creator of the Clutter Diet book and on-line program, and today we’re going to talk about something unpleasant. Okay? So I’m going to share something really personal with you, and I have a challenge for you that I want to ask you to watch this short video all the way to the end, even if you think you know what I’m going to say, because you probably don’t know what I’m going to say, and I’d really like you to hear this. It’s an important message, all right?
So here’s the message. Are you gonna take my challenge? Okay, good. The message is, you need to update your Will. Or if you haven’t done a Will, you need to do your Will. I have a person that I know recently who passed away who has not taken care of any of the Will, the affairs, of the estate. It’s a fairly large estate. It’s gonna be messy, it might even get ugly, it is not something you want to happen to your family. So, if you just simply have an estate that needs to be taken care of, of course, that’s obvious, everyone does, you need to do it. But if you’ve had a life change, you also need to update your Will, and that might not be something you’ve thought of.
So as many of you know, I had a divorce last year, in 2013. Also, my kids have both left home and gone off to college, so they are adult children. These are two major life changes, so I recently re-did my Will. And because my estate is relatively simple with those circumstances, I was able to do my Will on a web site. It’s called legalzoom – Z-O- O-M – .com. And I have no financial tie to them whatsoever. I do not benefit from recommending that to you. It’s just a fantastic resource that is a very low cost, and I want you guys to just get this done. So check it out. I did a Power of Attorney, I did a Living Will Medical Directive, and I also did, you know, the Last Will and Testament kind of thing. And all three of those things, which you don’t even have to do all three, they were, I think, altogether, about $175. So you think about the cost of one hour with an attorney, that’s extremely reasonable.
What they do is they walk you through this very simple questionnaire on-line, you just answer the questions, and they generate the document for you. They mail it to you in this folder that you just then have to go get formally signed with a Notary, and they have rules per state by how you exactly have to sign it. But it’s pretty darn simple. I really think it took me about 30, 45 minutes to complete the Wizard questionnaires on-line, and that was for all three of those things. So I’m very excited about sharing that resource with you, because a lot of people put this off. It’s important, but it’s not urgent, so people don’t do it. And I really think that if, you know, you don’t want to do the Legal Zoom thing, or if you have a slightly more complicated estate, you might want to use a local attorney, and if you do that, there are many attorneys who do a Will for a small fixed fee. That’s very common. So look into that. But get it done.
So here’s what you’ve got to do. Be accountable to someone for getting it done. Your friend probably needs to do her Will too. So you guys, be accountable to each other to at least take the first step, make the phone call, make the appointment, or whatever, and find that partner and be accountable to each other and knock this out, because you’re gonna feel awesome when you’ve finished it.
I have been talking about this for days and days because I feel like a million bucks for handling this estate, because I’m done. I don’t have to worry about it. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, everything is just fine. So you’re gonna feel good, you know it’s important, you’ve got to do it.
We’ve talked about having accountability partners for years in my program. That’s why we provide accountability on-line to you. If you need this from someone, and if you also need expert organizing advice, we do that all the time. You can have access to that for free for two weeks on our program at https://www.clutterdiet.com/learnmore. You can find out more about our Quick Start Program, and we would be glad to help you get this done, or whatever else you need to get done, from your garage to your home office to your closet to whatever. So check us out and we hope that you will report back here in the comments that you took some action on this today.
Thanks for accepting my challenge, watching this all the way through, and we’ll see you next time. May you always be happy and grateful for having more than enough.
