Hi. I’m Lorie Marrero, and today’s Clutter Video Tip is about pantry storage. You know, it seems like you either have too much packaging from the warehouse stores, like Costco or Sams, or you have not enough packaging because you’re buying from the supermarket bulk bins where they have no package at all, or you have packaging that just doesn’t quite work right for your pantry. So today, we’re going to look at all three of those problems and have a few solutions for you. When you’re at Costco and you buy a giant pack of oatmeal like this, one of the things you can do is just cut the flaps off, or tear them off, and make that package its own dispenser. What you’re doing is making that easier to grab and you’re making it more visible for your family, because visibility is one of the keys to any organizing project. You want your family to be able to see what you have so they can use it. You can also do something like unwrap your paper towels. So there’s excessive packing there. The overwrap with the paper towels is getting in the way of you getting the paper towels when you need them and it also makes it harder to store in one big giant bulky unit. So take that overwrap off, put the individual rolls of paper towels in your pantry where you can reach them easily. So when you have something like this that comes in a bag, and you open it then it’s really hard to re-close, you might re-use one of those big containers from Costco or Sams and make that into the container that you use for that ongoing. What you can do is save the instructions and the label information by just cutting it off and using plain clear packing tape to tape onto the container that you’re going to use. You can also re-use those large Costco containers by just simply marking out the label, or you can take the label off if you like, and putting a new label on the front. It makes a nice neat canister, and you don’t have to buy a bunch of expensive matching ones for your pantry.
