Last week I visited my sister in Seattle, and when I visited her office I was inspired to take photos and share them with you– it was one of the coolest offices I have ever seen! Click on these photos to get larger versions.
(Middle photo was one of their conference rooms. Third one is my sister's office.) The office space is in an old waterfront building that was mostly used for storage. The owner had a vision for what it could be, and they fixed it up and made it work. It's very home-like, mostly because the owner realized that if he bought antique furniture instead of contemporary office furniture, it would hold its value better, have more versatility, and feel better too.
I was so impressed by some of the storage pieces they had found! This one here was from an old Welsh bank (click for larger version). Lots of great compartments and then the whole thing could be closed by a rolling tambour door that came up from the bottom.
Here's another cool piece that is similar but had 3 sections (can you tell I just went cuckoo in here?).
My sister works for Media Partners, who produce and sell training videos for companies, schools, and nonprofits to show to their employees on topics like customer service, phone skills, diversity, honesty & ethics, and harassment. Their videos are made to be entertaining and memorable and I am really impressed!
It's not only a beautiful place, they also treat their team really well. My sister has told me about the whole team taking off for a Mariners game on a sunny day, and many other "great place to work" stories that make me so happy for her and everyone there. Hats off to employers who make work fun!
What's the coolest office you've ever seen? Do tell!
