Here's a quick trash tip from day one of our Good Housekeeping clutter makeover contest winner's garage… read more about this project and see before & after shots here. Click here to watch on YouTube if you can't see the embedded video player, and if you are a Kindle subscriber, scroll down to the bottom of this post for your own secret description of the tip since you can't watch it from your device. 😉
By the way, I just want to say that the fabulous Eddie Bauer shirt I am sporting there was purchased for a ridiculously low price from my local GOODWILL at Lake Austin Boulevard! I think it's important to support Goodwill's mission not only by donating to them, but by shopping there too. Everyone wins!
For Kindle subscribers or others who cannot watch the video… my tips are to use a portable pop-up trash can for organizing projects, and when you are loading a new liner, always put in 2-3 extra bags in the bottom so they'll be handy when you are ready to use them.
If you'd like more tips like this, along with hours of multimedia tutorials and direct online help from me and my expert team, read about our membership program— you can check it out for a month for $4.95, less than the price of a movie ticket (UPDATE July 2011: We now offer the FREE 7-Day Quickstart which includes seven days of focused guidance from me plus an additional 7 days of full access and support!). (Why would you not do that?? Really, we are $75+ per hour in person so it's a great deal… just sayin'.)

Your enthusiasm for the Spring Bag makes me smile when you talk about it 🙂
Before supporting goodwill, I would check this out first:

Guy’s MOM bought a t-shirt BEFORE his shift, and he gets fired!
I love the trash bag tip. And the spring can!
Half my wardrobe comes from thrift stores. 🙂
As far as the story link above, that is a very sad incident and Goodwill should make it right. But all companies make their mistakes. They still do a lot of good.
I also like to keep a dryer sheet in the bottom of my trash can….keeps it smelling fresh….
Eudevie, I have heard of this controversy—I am the ambassador for the Donate Movement and speak about that for Goodwill, but I am not their PR/crisis management person, so I couldn’t really comment on this. I do know that Goodwill has 166 member agencies in the United States and helps literally millions of people, so it stands to reason in such a large organization there are bound to be some situations that occur that are not typical of the organization as a whole. So I would encourage people to judge on the merits of an organization overall rather than on one isolated incident that we don’t have all the information about. – Lorie
